Cryogenic Deflashing Process Details

The Cryogenic Deflashing Machine from Cryonet, Surat is purpose-built to deflash rubber and plastic parts. Liquid nitrogen, barrel rotation and media — steel balls, ceramic balls or other suitable media — combine in varying ratios to remove flash precisely, economically and fast.

01

Load the parts

Moulded parts are placed in a perforated stainless-steel basket, which rotates inside a well-insulated blast chamber — keeping every part in motion through the treatment cycle.

02

Chill below glass transition

Liquid nitrogen is injected into the chamber while the basket rotates, evenly lowering part temperature until the rubber drops below its glass transition point and turns brittle.

03

Blast the brittle flash

A high-speed impeller directs plastic media at the tumbling parts inside the rotating basket. Travelling at speed, the media cleanly trims brittle flash — including inner, dimensionally complex flash no other method can reach.

Impeller speed up to 7,200 RPM
04

Separate media & finish

The machine separates reusable media from debris — flash and dust — and continues the cycle, leaving a high-quality, flash-free finished part ready for use.

Criteria for Cryogenic Deflashing

Getting the best finish, speed and nitrogen economy starts upstream — at flash design and mould quality.

Flash

Keep it thin

Ideal flash thickness is around 0.1 mm. Thinner flash means a faster process, a better finish, and lower consumption of liquid nitrogen, power and time.

Tooling

Avoid tear & trim design

Tear and trim designs should be avoided. Where unavoidable, shift the flash further away from the component to protect critical surfaces.

Moulding

Consistency is everything

Correct, consistent moulding is the single most important factor for success. No machine can overcome or eliminate moulding defects — consistent input is the only path to consistent finished output.
